The Simple Definition of artwork by the Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary is "a painting, sculpture, photograph, movie, etc., that is created to be beautiful or to express an important idea or feeling: an artistic work”, however the definition of art is controversial in contemporary philosophy. Whether art can be defined has also been a matter of controversy. The philosophical usefulness of a definition of art has also been debated.
Nowadays, the most accepted definition of art is that it isn’t supposed to be just aesthetically beautiful, it is supposed to make the person who sees it feel something.
This definition is generally used for contemporary art because back in the XIV century art was a way to portray reality perfectly.
However, art is supposed to make an impression on who’s seeing it, either it’s a good or a bad one, and make them think about it.
